Re: Hillside Kennels, Waltham Abbey, Essex. Proprietor Hilary Lockyer
and Richard Lockyer.

This kennels is privately owned, the proprietors breed, show and export
their schnauzers (they have over 100 of these dogs). They board dogs
and the RSPCA have given them the contract to take in stray dogs from 4
boroughs.

In June of this year they lost their contract with the RSPCA for the stray
cats due to the appalling conditions and treatment, all cats were removed
and placed elsewhere. Despite this action, for some unknown reason, the
dogs continue to be taken there.

I have for a long time been attempting to close the stated kennels. The
RSPCA have proved useless as I am sure that each time a surprise
check is carried out, the proprietor has been informed.

Please find on the attachment, a letter which I wrote with copies sent
to many people. The addressee is the secretary of the committee for the
kennels and the first 3 ccs are rspca workers who are on the committee.

Please could you let me have an email address of someone that I could
contact in this cause who may be able to assist me. There is much
suffering and abuse of the dogs in this place. I have contacted 2 local
newspapers with a request to print a small article saying they have received
a complaint about Hillside and would anyone who also has had a bad
experience there to contact them. Initially there has been interest and
then, nothing. The only reason I can think of for this is that the
addressees husband is a local councillor!

I have been aware of this kennels since April 2001 and have always felt
that if someone could work in there and make notes on a daily basis it would
prove most useful; unfortunately I have not been able to find anyone who
could do this. I am unable to do this myself as I have several rescue dogs
at home and could not leave them on a daily basis for the amount of time
that would be necessary.
