Hi

I was wondering if somebody may know which products are tested on animals,
so I can make sure I no longer buy them. As far as I know, Procter & Gamble
and SmithKline Beecham conduct such cruel acts, would you know of any such
companies/ or a web site that has this information? With appreciation,

Deep

All medication/drugs are tested on animals to prevent harmfully side
effect and make sure they are working. I think body shop sell products
that has been test by other but to test them self.

All mainstream drugs are tested, but this is not to prevent side effects. It
is to provide the pharmaceutical companies with an excuse so that when their
drugs end up killing and maiming people, they have a legal defence. Just
because it is safe for animals, doesnt mean it is safe for humans. eg
Aspirin kills guinea pigs.

Most drugs have side effect due to the fact that they not 100 specific
to the receptor they are targeted at. There are also genetical
difference between people. The animal testing is done to ensure that new
drugs are not toxic or cause cancer. To get a drugs approved the
pharmaceutical company must prove that is has the documented effect and
it is safe to use. Drugs are tested on animal before they enter clinical
trial where they are tested on humans. Since you mentioned guinea pig,
it was discoved that guinea pigs became calmer when they were
administrated Lithium which lead to the use of Lithium to treat humans
with depression.

What law(s) is it that controls whether animals must be experimented on in
order for a drug to be legally available?
