Well, as we discussed elsewhere, I think most people would think there
was something wrong with bringing humans into existence and killing
them for food. We would be violating their right to life, even though
if we had not acted in this way they would never have existed. You said
this account was totally lame, but I think its a pretty good
explanation of a widespread moral intuition. Since animal activists
believe nonhuman animals have a right to life, they think similar
considerations apply in this case too.
